Since 1962, salt has been produced and harvested from large evaporative lagoons on Heirisson prong by Shark Bay Resources Ltd and then stockpiled for export. The company's ship loader and white mountain of salt can be seen from Denham. The mine and town site is not open to tourists, entry permits are required from the Mine Manager.
